Rod Stewart next for Costa Adeje, Tenerife?

Rod Stewart

Tenerife has always been a musical island, attracting the cream of salsa and latino music, but the growing cosmopolitan make up of the population is now making it a desired venue for big international artists. Rod Stewart is the latest big name to be announced for a future concert, Sun Live Festival Canarias have given Saturday May 16 2009 as the date of the Scottish rockers big gig at Gold Costa Adeje.

This is the same company and venue that staged an Elton John concert on January 24 this year and had also pencilled in a Paul McCartney gig for this December 6. Alas it was not possible to match the former Beatle with the proposed date but SLFC have stated their intention to try for another fate, possibly as early as January 2009. This fits in with their Rod Stewart announcement, when they temptingly added that they have plans to bring 3 further international artists to Tenerife in 2009.

Golf Costa Adeje is a perfect setting as the golf course bowl can hold around 24,000 people and affords amazing views out to the Atlantic. The course nestles next to La Caleta, a charming Canarian fishing village that has spawned some fine residential developments in the surrounding hills. Actual Properties have great experience in this area and can present Magnolia Golf Resort, and Residencial Golf Costa Adeje as 2 great examples of nearby investments.

La Caleta grows in harmony with nature

You can’t blame people for wanting to live in La Caleta, the traditional Tenerife coastal village has spawned some of the most tasteful developments on the island but the local Costa Adeje council are keen to ensure that it doesn’t put a strain on the charming environment.

La Caleta

The first stone was laid this week for a new sea water desalination plant that will not only ensure water supplies for the immediate area, but will supply 40% of all water required in the municipality of Adeje. The 19 million euro project will be completed in 18 months and can produce up to 15,000 cubic tons of drinkable water every day.

The new plant will fit in well with the protected area of natural and scientific interest to the west of La Caleta and the rolling greens of Golf Costa Adeje, just above the village. Quite a setting for a home buyer, just pop in to Magnolia Golf Resort a residential complex of 120 high class apartments with 2 and 3 bedrooms. The large garden area shares a spa, swimming pool, gym and sauna, and the hillside location ensures great views out across the Atlantic to the island of La Gomera. La Caleta is certainly planning ahead.

Canary Islands at centre of tourism stage

British holiday habits look set to come under close scrutiny as the credit crunch tightens, but many surveys are showing that holidays are most people’s last and most reluctant casualty on their cut back list. However holiday makers are set to become even more choosey, that’s why the Canarian government launched a major and united promotion at last weeks World Travel Market in London.

Los Cristianos, Tenerife

It’s the travel event of the year with 50,000 trade visitors over 4 days and the Canary Islands 697 square metre stand was packed with the most tempting facts and figures for all the islands in one easy access point at the ExCel Centre in Docklands. Before the doors opened, the first part of another promotion took place at the Emirates Stadium for the Arsenal v Manchester United game. Pitch side hoardings, programme adverts and a 14 day exhibition, backed by adverts on London taxis and buses pushed the message home, that the Canary Islands are the place to be. Potentially 500 million people will have seen the hoardings due to 202 countries showing highlights of the game.

Back at the World Travel Market, Rita Martin, tourism councillor for the Canary Islands government unveiled a 10.4 million euros tourism push over the next 6 weeks. The promotion will cover 16 European countries, with the UK market taking 2.3 million euros of the total budget. There are grey skies ahead for the UK economy, but the blue skies of the Canaries, and its leading lure, Tenerife, look certain to reap the rewards of this ambitious drive by the Canarian government.

Roque del Conde, where Tenerife luxury is always on view

Roque del Conde

If that sounds impressive, wait till you see the finish on the inside of the villas, a fully equipped kitchen makes cooking a pleasure and a large modern lounge catches the eye and leads directly onto the terrace for that special view. You can always pamper yourself as well as one of the bathrooms has an en suite hydro massage bath. South Tenerife boosted by Siam Park opening

Well worth the wait, that’s the general verdict on Siam Park, the water kingdom that is already making a big splash in Costa Adeje. Once the Princess of Thailand cut the ceremonial ribbon on September 17, it launched a barrage of media headlines around Europe to turn the focus back on to south Tenerife.

Siam Park

Set in 185,000 square metres of space and featuring 14 thrilling rides and attractions, it has caught the imagination of the public and is drawing the crowds to see the 55 milllion euro investment in Tenerife leisure. The area, just behind the vibrant resort of Playa de Las Americas, is one of the boom areas of the island. Just to the east is Golf Las Americas, one of the many top golf venues in Tenerife, and just below Siam Park is the Magma Arts and Congress Centre, another bold dynamic project, completed barely 5 years ago and a major stage for business conventions and musical splendour.

The same bold style is evident in many of the luxury developments in this area of Costa Adeje, As you take the approach road to Siam Park, crossing the TF 1 motorway that links to the south airport in 20 minutes, signs will direct you to the new Caldera del Rey development, perched above with great views to the sea. The 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and villas enjoy the tranquility and peace of a select setting coupled with the convenience of a few minutes drive to the best leisure amenities in the south of Tenerife.

La Caleta, a fit and healthy place to live

Tenerife is always changing and evolving and adding great attractions to those natural ones like the sea, mountains and glorious villages. La Caleta in the south west corner, is a very popular place because of its mix of traditional fishing village and modern tourism developments, now it is to gain one of the most modern sports training facilities in Europe.

T3 sports centre

Tenerife Top Training, or T3 for short, is a 56,000 square metre centre of sporting excellence just above the village of La Caleta. Opening in late August, it will welcome not only local sports enthusiasts, but also leading sports teams and clubs that want to combine a holiday with intensive training.

The main features are 3 pools, one Olympic size at 50 metres long, another half the size, both heated to 27 degrees, and an indoor therapy pool with state of the art bio mechanics to produce a 3D image of a swimmer against a 2.5 metre per second water flow. This can be studied on a giant screen to detect weaknesses and improve technique for hi level performers, and to treat those with injuries or disabilities.

Two full size outdoor floodlit football pitches will be very welcome, one with real grass and one with a synthetic surface. Add to that indoor physio and training rooms and outdoor tennis and padel courts, and you can see that this will be a major leisure addition, just next to Golf Costa Adeje.

Actual Properties has 19 semi detached villas in the area, Caleta Golf Resort has 2 and 3 bedroom with their own garage and even a wine cellar. Set on the hill above La Caleta, they offer a stunning view, and easy access to the areas leisure facilities and the charms of the fishing village below. Despite the feeling of detachment and tranquillity, the villas are within 5 minutes of the vibrant resorts of los Cristianos and Las Americas, and just 15 minutes from the south airport.

Tenerife still luring the Brits

It’s all about priorities, Brits know there is a credit crunch, how could they forget, as they are constantly reminded by petrol price hikes and a spiralling cost of living. But new figures from the Office for National Statistics, show that 1,000 Brits are still leaving the UK each day, eager to get away from the doom and gloom and invest in a better life for their family. The Daily Express recently did a big feature on the rush for the sun, in their, Your Money, pullout.

Los Cristianos

Tenerife is the name on many of their wish lists, it’s an island many already know from fond holiday memories, the all year temperate climate is a big factor and a relaxed and safer way of life is very important for couples bringing up a family. The south of Tenerife offers great variety, and Actual Properties have the experience and depth of choice to match great properties and prices with everyones needs.

From the vibrant centre of Las Americas, to the sedate charms of hillside properties, or for golf fanatics, how about living next to a golf course, sounds like heaven, there is an amazing choice in Tenerife, and where ever you decide to settle, the island is small enough to explore and find your own special places . It’s been a long love affair between the Brits and Tenerife, and rather than be discouraged by the forecasts of lean times in the Uk, many are seeing this as the perfect time to chase that dream and find a new life in the sun.

Rasca, a beacon to Palm Mar luxury

Rasca lighthouseIf you are not sure where the select modern resort of Palm Mar is in Tenerife, a quick glance from Los Cristianos beach will soon pick out the red and white striped lighthouse that marks Rasca point, just along from Palm Mar. Malpais de Rasca is a nature reserve formed by a lava flow that has left a wealth of rugged landscape and a home for many species of plants and animals.

Malpais de Rasca is at one side of Palm Mar, and the protective face of Guaza mountain is at the other, ensuring that new developments here are protected from the wind and attract the best of the sunshine, as well as wonderful sea views. Bahia de los Menceyes contains 3 bed ground floor apartments and 3 and 4 bed duplex penthouse apartments, all in tropical gardens served by 3 swimming pools. Light and space have been used to good effect to give a feel that fits in well with the natural charm of the area.

Malpais de Rasca is a popular area with hikers, and the Tenerife government has announced a 300,000 euro investment to give the old lighthouse a much deserved make over. The 32 metre tower was built in 1898 with stone quarried from Guaza mountain and with the addition of a small car park and jetty, it will become easier to reach in future. There will also be a small education centre to make visitors aware of the plants and animals that can be found in the area. This nature reserve, like Guaza Mountain, will always be protected, that’s reassuring for those fortunate to live in Palm Mar, they will always be surrounded by nature’s finest views.

More praise for Mirador del Sur designer

Mirador del Sur

Anyone who has seen the luxury villas of Mirador del Sur phase 2 in San Eugenio Alto, will already appreciate the design flair of architect Antonio del Pozo Mozo. The individual style he brings to each of the 17 detached and semi detached villas, has brought him an army of admirers, and now he is set to transform one of the most iconic buildings in Santa Cruz, the long abandoned bull ring.

Plaza de Torros in La Rambla del General Franco, hasn’t staged bull fights since they were banned in the Canary Islands in 1983, since then, apart from the odd concert, the building has been unused and allowed to slip into disrepair as arguments raged on about its future. Last weekend the Santa Cruz council invited architects to exhibit plans for the building in Parque Garcia Sanabria, for members of the public to examine, and then vote for their favourite, before a panel of experts led by the mayor, gave their final say. There were 35 entries but Plaza de Todos by Antonio del Pozo Mozo , Cesar de Pozo Ortega and Carlos Bernal Limiñana  was a clear winner with the public and unanimously backed by the panel of experts.

Bull ring

The winning design preserves the facade of the building but opens up large areas to allow light and space for leisure use. Antonio is known for his attention to detail and sense of style, you may have to wait a year or two before the bull ring shows its new face, but Mirador del Sur is ready to show you how good home design can be .
