Malpais de Rasca is at one side of Palm Mar, and the protective face of Guaza mountain is at the other, ensuring that new developments here are protected from the wind and attract the best of the sunshine, as well as wonderful sea views. Plaza de Torros in La Rambla del General Franco, hasn’t staged bull fights since they were banned in the Canary Islands in 1983, since then, apart from the odd concert, the building has been unused and allowed to slip into disrepair as arguments raged on about its future. Last weekend the Santa Cruz council invited architects to exhibit plans for the building in Parque Garcia Sanabria, for members of the public to examine, and then vote for their favourite, before a panel of experts led by the mayor, gave their final say. There were 35 entries but Plaza de Todos by Antonio del Pozo Mozo , Cesar de Pozo Ortega and Carlos Bernal Limiñana  was a clear winner with the public and unanimously backed by the panel of experts.

The winning design preserves the facade of the building but opens up large areas to allow light and space for leisure use. Antonio is known for his attention to detail and sense of style, you may have to wait a year or two before the bull ring shows its new face, but Mirador del Sur is ready to show you how good home design can be .

The tennis courts, just part of the extensive facillities on offer at Abama Golf Resort, resounded to the sound of happy children and two great former professionals, keen to give something back to the sport they love. Into the afternoon, and over 1,500 people packed the courtside to cheer on their heroes. Pat Cash had got through from the semi finals beating Michael Stich 6-3, 6-4 and in the other semi, Albert Costa emerged the winner after beating Bjorn Borg 6-4, 6-3.

The two squared up and rolled back the years with some athletic tennis and in the case of Pat Cash, a little of his trademark cheekyness that endeared him to the fans. The Catalan Albert Costa, took the trophy, winning 6-4, 6-2 but the event had been about so much more than claiming the big prize.

Next years tournament was soon on the lips of all concerned, and it seems that this will become a regular draw for senior players on the world stage. Along with more road improvements, it’s a real show of faith by the Tenerife politicians, in an area that is growing in popularity, and will continue to do so with the improving access.
